Yoga in the Gardens

The Elizabethans were fascinated with the exotic, especially the orient. Their gardening style expressed their delight in taming the wilderness which makes Yoga in The Elizabethan Gardens a natural fit sine the goal of practicing Yoga is to learn to control or tame the body physically and mentally. Unlike the Elizabethans, we aren’t worried about the Black Death or Bubonic Plague, but the silent plague of inactivity has spawned countless get off the couch and get moving programs. We know we should move more and why not start with Yoga in the tranquil setting of The Elizabethan Gardens? Yoga

Instructor Chelsea Quattrone teaches Yoga on the Great Lawn at 9:30am. The 90 minute class is open to the general public for a fee of $15.00 per person Non-Members and $10.00 for Members. Participants can arrive as early as 9:00am for the 9:30am class. Classes run each Wednesday May 4- Sept. 21 and is subject to weather-related cancellations.

(In case of weather, yoga may be held inside Odom Hall.)

COMPOSTING BASICS is designed to familiarize the participant with practical and easily applicable information on composting in your home garden, as an intentional replication of a natural process. Topics covered will include the benefits of composting, terminology, the physical and chemical changes that occur in the compost pile or bin, various techniques for composting and a troubleshooting Q/A. We will view a TED video and take a walk to the Elizabethan Garden compost site and greenhouse. Instructors Terry Zeytoonian and Lou Ellen Flowers

Participates please bring work gloves and dress appropriately for a compost visit in the Gardens.image

Minty Tuesday

Looking for a refreshing afternoon adventure? Children aged 6-12 years will enjoy a one- Minty-Iconlrg hour “minty” adventure searching for and learning all about mint in The Gardens. Young learners will make mint rubbings and plant mint to take home as well as enjoy mint cookies and mint ice cream.  Limited to 30 participants. (Indoors and Outdoors)

Wet and Wild Wednesday

Come enjoy the excitement of a fun-filled water day on the Great Lawn of the Gardens. Enjoy water slides, squirt toys, a water canon and more cool-down fun water activities. You are guaranteed to get wet so please wear your swimsuit.  This is a day for the whole family to cool off and enjoy the Gardens from a different perspective. Free with regular Garden admission.

Storybook Thursdays

On Thursdays, it’s story time in the Gardens. We invite children of Book-Iconlrgall ages, accompanied by an adult, to gather in air-conditioned Odom Hall and enjoy a garden-inspired story, snack, and hands-on activity. After story time, join in a hands-on activity – root a plant to take home to your garden. (Indoors & Outdoors, weather permitting).
