Great Gates & Colonist Walk Jubilee

Aug 9 - Aug 9 2017, 4:30 PM TO 6:30 PM

Admission Required. (Members admitted FREE)

Join us as we celebrate the return of recently restored Great Gates  and the installation of our Colonist Walk. Join us for fanfare and refreshments to celebrate these garden projects and celebrate those that made this possible.

About the Gates

These recently restored hand-forged iron gates will provide decades of service to The Elizabethan Gardens. Believed to have once hung at the French Embassy in Washington DC, these gates were given to the gardens as a gift procured by American Diplomat and politician C. Douglas Dillion. Years of wear and the Outer Banks environment damaged the historic iron. With assistance from the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau, Outer Banks Community Foundation and our patrons we have been able to restore these iconic symbols of our gardens.

About the Colonist Walk

Garden clubs across the state of North Carolina were approached with the opportunity to support the gardens and further memorialize the lost colonists of Roanoke with the Colonist Brick Project. Each club is memorialized along with a colonist in the ill-fated 1587 colony. This walk enhances The Gardens and compliments the courtyard alongside our historic and recently restored iron gates.
