Elizabethan Gardens, Roanoke Island Garden Club, Dunes of Dare Garden Club, Outer Banks History Center, Manteo Preservation Trust and dedicated volunteers coordinate a tour that gives visitors an inside look at extraordinary historic and contemporary sites and, at the same time, provides a fun way to support a worthy cause. The Elizabethan Gardens Home and Garden Tour is an annual fundraising event for The Gardens. The 2014 tour will feature charming gardens, homes and historic sites on Roanoke Island. This tour showcases some of the delightful homes and gardens that exemplify the creative and original style of their owners, as well as their beautiful gardens. In addition, each home will showcase artists and their art.

Lunch is included in the event and will be served at The Elizabethan Gardens from 12-3pm.

OVERVIEW OF EVENTS

9 am – 5pm, Outer Banks History Center Gallery: “An Eye for Art, A Heart for History” exhibit.

10 – 11am, Coffee & A Cultural Conversation with Secretary Susan Kluttz, N.C. Dept./Cultural Resources, and the Friends of the Outer Banks History Center. At Odom Hall, The Elizabethan Gardens.

11am-5pm, *Ace Hardware Home & Garden Tour, visit seven unique homes & sites. Additionally, each site features local artists displaying their craft.

11am-5pm, Spring Fling at Outer Banks Ace, Manteo. Celebrate spring with varieties of unique succulents from Meadows of Bliss, tour the Outer Banks Hospital’s new health coach & get exclusive in-store Ace discounts!

12pm-3pm, *Ace Hardware Home & Garden Tour Lunch, a fabulous lunchen buffet at The Elizabethan Gardens for tour attendees.

12:30pm, *Birthday Cake & Ice Cream to celebrate the 25th birthday of the Outer Banks History Center with Secr./NC Cultural Resources, Susan Kluttz and Clark Twiddy, chairman, Friends of the Outer Banks History Center. At Odom Hall, The Elizabethan Gardens.

2-3pm, Spring for Literary Arts: Book signings and short talks by North Carolina authors, Jay Barnes, Sarah Downing and Kevin Duffus. Outer Banks History Center event at Manteo Historic Courthouse.

3-4pm, Cultural Conversation with Manteo Preservation Trust and Premier Super 8 Film: Historic Manteo Waterfront at Manteo Historic Courthouse.

 DETAILS OF EVENTS

10:00am-11:00am Coffee & A Cultural Conversation – at Odom Hall, The Elizabethan Garden, Hosted by Friends of the Outer Banks History Center. Join Secretary Susan Kluttz, Dept. of Cultural Resources, in a visioning session about the importance of cultural arts and preservation to our citizens, communities, and state. Enjoy light morning refreshments. Hosted by the Friends of the Outer Banks History Center as a 25th birthday celebration event.

11:00am – 5:00pm Ace Hardware Spring for the Arts Home & Garden Tour – This exciting tour will feature charming gardens, homes and historic sites on Roanoke Island to showcase the creative and original style of their owners. Additionally, each home will feature artists and their work. Tour includes salad buffet served 12-3pm at The Elizabethan Gardens. Advance tickets: $35, Event day: $40 day. 11:00am-5:00pm “An Eye for Art, A Heart for History” – Outer Banks History Center Gallery, Hosted by Friends of the Outer Banks History Center -Located across from the Manteo Waterfront at Roanoke Island Festival Park. Visit the History Center’s 25th anniversary exhibit presented with the Dare County Arts Council for this lively and colorful show displaying 45 works of art by 26 artists who have expressed in very vibrant, personal ways their appreciation of our unique and enduring Outer Banks heritage and culture in a broad range of artistic media. Gallery located at Roanoke Island Festival Park.

12:30pm -1:00pm Outer Banks History Center Celebration - Odom Hall, The Elizabethan Garden, Hosted by Friends of the Outer Banks History Center. Join in a rousing happy birthday celebration, with birthday cake and ice cream, for the Outer Banks History Center led by Secretary Susan Kluttz and Clark Twiddy, chairman, Friends of the Outer Banks History Center. Home & Garden Tour ticket required.

2:00pm -3:00 pm Spring for Literary Arts: Book signings and short talks by North Carolina authors, Jay Barnes, Sarah Downing and Kevin Duffus. – Dare Arts Center- Manteo Historic Courthouse, Hosted by Friends of the Outer Banks History Center. Take advantage of this special opportunity to meet and greet these chroniclers of coastal and local history, and purchase a signed copy of their most recent works.

3:00pm-4:00pm Cultural Conversation with Manteo Preservation Trust and Premiere Super 8 Film: “Preserve and Prosper: The Waterfront of Historic Manteo, North Carolina” – Dare Arts Center- Manteo Historic Courthouse, Hosted by Manteo Preservation Trust. Join the leadership of Manteo Preservation Trust who will discuss and engage fresh ideas and inform the community of new preservation initiatives directly impacting historical preservation in the Town of Manteo namely the criteria for historic district designation and potential tax credit for restoration projects. Watch the Super 8 Film Premiere of “Preserve and Prosper: The Waterfront of Historic Manteo, North Carolina”.

11am-5pm Spring Fling Event at Outer Banks Ace Hardware, Manteo, NC - Make this unique stop along the tour, and enjoy a one-day-only special of 20% off (tour ticket required) Meadows of Bliss will have an array of succulents, some for amateurs, others targeted at collectors for sale. They will also share proper care techniques, history and plant origin. The Outer Banks Hospital’s new health coach will be onsite 11am-2pm for free blood pressure checks, tours of the wellness bus and information about upcoming events. Outer Banks Ace will showcase their selection of Talavera pottery urns, vases, platters and more! Talavera represents the finest ceramics of Mexico, a technique from the Spanish colonial period rich with old world design and a colorful heritage. All of the pieces are intricately hand painted with floral and animal motifs that will look beautiful at your home! Attendees will also be able to shop Outer Banks Ace’s wide selection of lawn & garden and outdoor living items.

11am-5pm 17th Annual Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show - on exhibit thru May at Dare Arts Center- Manteo Historic Courthouse (Dare County Arts Council) in downtown Manteo. The show, which features an eclectic mix of local and regional art, is held in memory of Dare County art supporter Mollie Fearing. Exhibit showcases painting, pottery, sculpture, photography, jewelry design, metal design, glass, wood, fiber arts, printmaking, and mixed media. Winners for Best in Show, Excellence, Honorable Mention, and People’s Choice will be on display. Call (252) 473-5558 for information.

The Elizabethan Gardens is located adjacent to The Lost Colony's Waterside Theatre and Fort Raleigh National Historic Park on Roanoke Island nestled near North Carolina's Outer Banks. The gardens are open year-round, seven days a week.
