Succulent plants refer to those in the families of sempervivums, sedums, aloes, kalanchoes, echeverias, and other fleshy leaved species. Easy to grow, succulents evolved in some of the toughest places on earth, and are actually at their best when grown in hot sun and poor soil. The Elizabethan Gardens is located adjacent to The Lost Colony's Waterside Theatre and Fort Raleigh National Historic Park on Roanoke Island nestled near North Carolina's Outer Banks. The gardens are open year-round, seven days a week except certain holidays.
