March 2 Succulent Kissing Ball Class 10:00 am

April 6 Salad Container Gardening 11:00 – 1:00 pm
Lettuce show you how to plant and enjoy a fresh salad in a space-saving container! The Gardens will supply the containers, soil and plants for your garden to get started. April 23-25 Botanical Watercolor: Spring Studio Workshop 9:30 to 3:30 PM
Linda Miller, Resident Botanical Artist at The Elizabethan Gardens, inspires participants to see, preserve and interpret the beauty of the garden during this unique workshop. The first day begins with a thirty-minute program about botanical art and a walking tour of the gardens to gather specimens. Artists will delight in Miller’s vested interest and skill in capturing the botanical world in watercolor and her ability to impart this mastery with the class. This two-day workshop is open to all artists – beginner to advanced, with optional third day. Price includes admission to The Gardens. Two-Day Class: Members/Friends, $100; Non-Members, $120. May 1-June 26 Wednesday Yoga Session A
The lush and green gardens are the perfect spot to enjoy the benefits of yoga. Improve your strength, energy, posture and flexibility by joining this 9-week session led by instructor Paula Mayfield M.S. trained at Harvard’s Mind and Body Institute, Duke Integrative Medicine, Integrative Yoga Therapy. Suited for beginners or individuals who enjoy a relaxed pace. Pre-register by calling 252-473-3234. Session A yoga class meets from 9-10 am, beginning May 1 and running thru June 26. May 4 Plant a Victory Garden Workshop 11am-1pm
Victory Gardens were encouraged as a way to save and assist the war efforts. Why not plant you own victory garden to win the war on high groceries? During this hands-on workshop you will learn about a self-watering container and plant a simple Victory Garden in a container of your own. Cost includes one special self-watering container, soil, choice of two vegetables and several herbs to accompany. Additional self-watering planters and plants are extra. Members $65. Non-Members $55. May 4 Twenty Great Shade Perennials for the South 1pm-3pm
Enjoy this workshop all about twenty shade-loving perennials that flourish at The Elizabethan Gardens. Jeff Lewis, Head Gardener, will educate you on shade plants and how to get them to grow. A walk afterwards in the Gardens will allow you to view these plants and learn more hands on details about them. Members $25. Non-Members $30. May 11 Cheese It Up 12pm-2pm
Enjoy wine and cheese as you create a one-of-a-kind take home summer container garden with Carl Curnutte and friends. Create a uniquely perfect planter – sure to be the conversation of the party and also discover the art of matching cheese with wine, to further impress at your next cocktail party. May 9 and 10 Drawing In Color – Adult’s Two Day Art Workshop
Join us for an amazing two day art class with color pencil artist Lorraine Evans. Lorraine has been teaching for 8 years and holds a certificate from the Botanical Garden. You will delight in the exciting medium of color pencil techniques and skills in a medium that is leaping to fine art. You will learn about layering, using solvents and other exciting techniques with color pencil. A garden tour will offer the opportunity to select plant specimens to learn about color matching. Participants will work from nature and finish a colored pencil drawing of a plant growing in the season. Four hours of instruction is offered each day. All art supplies are included. We recommend a packed lunch. Start penciling the world today! Thursday, May 9 and Friday, May 10 -10 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. (half hour lunch) Odom Hall. $100 per student for Members $110 for Non – Members

June 1 Gardening Workshop: “Cloning with Quentin” 10am-12pm
Local living legend, Quentin Bell, will show you the proper techniques for propagation. Mr. Bell grew up on The Roanoke Island Nursery and his family has been involved with The Gardens since its inception. Garden and Nursery Manager, Jeff Lewis, will provide cuttings of shrubs, trays and soil. Mr. Bell will provide his talents and techniques! June 8 Miniature Garden Workshop 10:30am -12:30pm
A hands-on introduction to small-scale gardens within a container. Join the Garden’s very own Lady Nancy Harvey and discover the enchanting art of miniature indoor gardens using plants such as donkey’s tail, ice plants, Irish moss, ghost plants, Hens and Chicks, Moses in a cradle. Plants are included. Bring any miniature sized garden ornaments, rocks or sentimental items you wish to use for your take-home botanical vignette. Members: $30. Non-Members: $40. July 18 “Create a Bird Haven in Your Backyard” 2-3:30pm
Bird watching is one of the most popular hobbies in the world. Learn which plants are good choices for attracting birds to your garden, as well as other tried-and-true methods, such as water features and birdhouses to attract these fascinating creatures. Sept. 7 Techniques and Tips for Plant Propagation at Home 12noon-2pm
