Job Posting: Executive Director – Elizabethan Gardens, Manteo, NC

The Elizabethan Gardens seeks a visionary Executive Director to lead operations, growth, and community engagement at this historic garden attraction on Roanoke Island. The ideal candidate will bring experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, and strategic planning. The Executive Director reports to and works at the direction of the Board of Governors, with a focus on preserving the Gardens’ unique heritage while enhancing its educational and cultural offerings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily operations, staff, volunteers, and budget management.

• Develop and implement fundraising, membership, and grant strategies.

• Build strong community relationships and partnerships with local organizations and stakeholders.

• Lead marketing and promotional efforts to grow awareness and attendance, focusing on both local and tourism markets.

• Ensure the Gardens’ facilities and programs align with long-term goals and environmental best practices.

Qualifications:

• Leadership experience in nonprofit, public gardens, banking, arts, or similar fields.

• Strong financial management, grant writing, and fundraising skills.

• Excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-building abilities.

• Board management experience preferred, with a commitment to fostering strong board relationships and governance.

Benefits:

• Flexible salary and benefits package up to $85,000, including salary, insurance, and PTO.
