Position Title:
Programs and Events Manager
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday with occasional weekend, evening, and/or holiday work required. This position may require occasional travel.
Salary: $48,000

Position Overview:
The dual purpose of this position is to develop, lead, teach, and manage the Gardens’ education section and to assist in the management of events held in the garden. This position’s duties include envisioning, designing and developing mission related education learning opportunities; developing activities and curriculum to accompany school programs; correlating all school programs with the NC Department of Public Instruction’s Standard Course of Study learning objectives as appropriate; managing education spaces (such as the new sensory garden), materials, and equipment.
In addition, the Programs and Events Manager will help develop, grow, and enhance events in the garden that provide enjoyment to our guests and serve as important revenue streams to our organization. By serving as a main point of contact for wedding and event planners, collaborating with garden staff, and executing necessary contracts and paperwork, the Programs and Events Manager helps keep our events well organized.
The Programs and Events Manager interviews, trains, and directly supervises seasonal staff, interns and volunteers that may be hired to further our education and events channels. This position also works in collaboration with other managers and the Executive Director on long term strategic planning, including program and garden enhancement and expansion. The Programs and Events Manager participates in applying for grants and sponsorships that support education programs and other events/projects happening in the garden. The Programs and Events Manager should be able to assume any other duties as assigned by the executive director.
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required in this Position: In addition to knowledge of natural science and informal education, the job requires extensive interpersonal skills, effective supervisory skills, an excellent ability to communicate orally and in writing, a high level of expertise in program/event planning, and the ability to coordinate and organize effectively. The employee must be self-directed and capable of working independently, creatively, and cooperatively. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable of botany, horticulture, understand natural systems and processes, be knowledgeable of major environmental trends, issues and concerns, and have grant writing experience. An outgoing personality and willingness to have fun at work is required.
Education and/or Experience Preferred: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in botany, horticulture, or other natural science curriculum and three years of program management and/or teaching experience in natural science, including some supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Administrative Assistant, Part Time, Year round
Work Schedule:
Monday-Thursday 9-4
Hourly Wage: $18/hr.
Duties:
Work closely with Executive Director and Programs & Events Manager, and other department leads to assist in all aspects of a smooth-running administrative office.
Demonstrate excellent customer communication skills in person, over the telephone, through email and other electronic channels.
Assist in scheduling and coordination of events such as weddings, corporate events, parties, etc.
Assist as needed with special events in the gardens
Generate reports, organize documents and data, maintain event calendars, order office supplies
Skills:
Ability to deliver exceptional customer service
Excellent communicator
Thrives in a friendly and fun team environment
Proficient with typical computer software, MS Office, Power Point, etc.
Database management
Experience Preferred:
Experience or skills of managing a day to day office
Experience running a front desk / receptionist / working with the public
Experience related to project coordination / Event Planning
